Meet Diarmuid -
The Breakthrough Coach
Introduction and Career
My name is Diarmuid and I am a certified personal life coach with a further specialisation in career coaching. I am living in Cork on the south coast of Ireland. In the past, I have also lived in Dublin and experienced a very enjoyable year living in Germany.
In my career, I have been fortunate enough to meet many interesting companies and many fantastic people. I am currently working in advertising and account management with the agency Finch, specialising in Amazon advertising. This role gives me the opportunity to interact with medium and large brands mostly in Germany, US, UK and many other European countries, as well as insights into many different industries.
For the past 13 years, I have also been a freelance photographer at various events like university balls and weddings. I especially love travel photography.
I have worked in companies with as few as 20 employees to large multinationals like Dell EMC. These experiences have helped me see the opportunities and challenges of having a career at both small and large organisations.
Education and Personal Life
In 2018, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Economics and German. As part of my bachelor, I also studied psychology for one year. This experience sparked the interest that has stayed with me ever since. Little did I know that, in 2022, it would be the world of psychology and coaching in particular that I would want to return too.
As Steve Jobs said, “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.” I have derived great confidence from that quote as it is a reminder that no experience is wasted and can be relevant in our next step.
In 2017, I studied for one year in Hannover, Germany, through the Erasmus programme. My time in Germany was one of the most important and transformative of my life. I was fortunate to make many friends from all around the world, travel to many new cities and gain a new sense of independence and confidence by living abroad and navigating everyday life in a foreign language. I often look back on my year abroad as the moment in time where I started to become the person that I am today and left behind the version of myself who at best was “just getting by and a bit directionless,” rather than the more confident, happier and more purpose-driven person I am today in 2025.
In 2018, I met my future wife Julia, when we started the same job on the same day. We instantly hit it off and moved in together just a few months later. From the outside it seemed like a crazy thing to do, but there was no doubt in my mind it was the right decision. We got married just under 5 years later in June 2023 in Kinsale. We live with our dachshund Pablo and cat Willow, and are enjoying gradually becoming coastal people.
In my free time, I love photography. I enjoy visiting and photographing new cities to capture the different architectural styles and atmosphere of a new place. I also enjoy sea swimming, tennis, and I am currently learning how to surf. Lastly, I am also a Manchester United fan, which has taught me a lot about patience in recent years.
